  1. PREFERENCES PRINTERS
  2.  
  3. In an effort to create more printer drivers, we have removed the
  4. Preference printers from the Print disk.  The only preferences
  5. driver that remains is the "Generic" driver which is found on the
  6. WP disk in Devs/Printers directory.  If another Preferences
  7. driver is needed, you must copy that driver from the Devs/
  8. Printers directory on the WorkBench disk to the Devs/Printers
  9. directory on the WP disk.
  10.  
  11. *PRINTER DRIVERS
  12.  
  13. Printers whose name begins with an asterisk(*) are limited
  14. support printer drivers.  We have borrowed some printers from
  15. computer stores to enable us to write the drivers for them and
  16. then returned them, so these printers are not "in house" for us
  17. to test possible problems you may have.
  18.  
  19. POSTSCRIPT PRINTERS
  20.  
  21. 8 new PostScript Printer drivers have been added recently to our
  22. Print disks.  The styles and point sizes for each driver is
  23. listed below:

  25. For PostScript printers AvantGarde, Bookman, Courier, and
  26. Helvetica:
  27.  
  28. Font 1: 11pt Standard              Font 5: 9pt Standard
  29. Font 2: 11pt Italic                Font 6: 9pt Italic
  30. Font 3: 11pt Bold                  Font 7: 11pt Symbol
  31. Font 4: 11pt Bold Italic           Font 8: 17pt Bold
  32.  
  33. For PostScript printers NewCenturySchoolBook, Palatino, and Times
  34. Roman:

  36. Font 1: 12pt Standard              Font 5: 9pt Standard
  37. Font 2: 12pt Italic                Font 6: 9pt Italic
  38. Font 3: 12pt Bold                  Font 7: 12pt Symbol
  39. Font 4: 12pt Bold Italic           Font 8: 17pt Bold

  41. For PostScript printer ZapfChancery:

  48. They have been tested and have produced very satisfactory
  49. results.  For best results when using a PostScript printer
  50. driver, a few basic procedures must be followed:
  51.  
  52. a) Set the destination inside the Print Program to "Device or    
  53.    File."
  54.  
  55. b) Type "Ser:" in the requester box and select "Accept."
  56.  
  57. c) In the "Change Serial" section of Preferences, select 
  58.    9600 Baud, 8 Read Bit, 8 Write Bit, 1 Stop Bit, Parity-None,
  59.    and Handshaking xOn/xOff.
  60.  
  61. Be sure that you save the selections made.
  62.  
  63. d) The PScript.ps file must be in the Print: directory.  The file
  64.    is included on the Print disk.  
  65.  
  66. Many PostScript printers require use of a Null-Modem cable or
  67. adapter when connected through the Serial interface. 
  68.  
  69. LASERWRITER DRIVERS
  70.  
  71. There are four Printer drivers for the Laserwriter.  Problems
  72. with the LaserWriter's Serial interface, acknowledged by Apple
  73. Computers, and documented by Adobe are sometimes the cause of
  74. unsatisfactory results.  The problems exist in some
  75. LaserWriter's, while others may have no problems.
  76.  
  77. The LaserWriter drivers are PostScript drivers and may be used
  78. for any PostScript printer and the other PostScript drivers can
  79. be used for the LaserWriter.

  81. AUGUST 10 PRINT RELEASE
  82.  
  83. In the August 10 release, problems were introduced into several
  84. of the *limited supported printer drivers.  In this release,
  85. those problems have been corrected.
  86.  
  87. LASERJET DRIVERS
  88.  
  89. There have been two LaserJet definitions introduced on this Print
  90. disk. They are the LaserJt Reg,+,500+ Z: Helvetica and Z: Times
  91. Roman drivers.
  92.  
  93. OTHER NEW DRIVERS
  94.  
  95. Drivers have been added for the following printers:

  98. 2.   *Citizen 120D
  99. 3.   PostScript Avantgarde
  100. 4.   PostScript Bookman

  104. 8.   PostScript Palatino
  105. 9.   PostScript Times Roman
  106. 10.  PostScript ZapfChancery
  107. 11.  NEC P5200/5300
  108. 12.  *NEC P2200

  110. The 4 LaserWriter drivers and the Panasonic KX-P1092i driver are
  111. now listed as fully supported.
